The closest thing Dreamwidth has to a subreddit is a community.

You can search for communities similar to your favorite subreddits using the Interests page or search box in your blog.  To find active communities, you can also visit [community profile] followfriday where there is a new topical list each week.

If you don't find a good match, you could launch a new community.  Anyone making a community to replace a subreddit could use "r_" or "reddit_" or "subreddit_" as a prefix to indicate what it is. Then put "Reddit" and "Subreddit" in the Interests to make it searchable.

Don't overlook individual blogs, though.  A thematic blog and its dedicated audience can have quite lively conversations on a specific topic.  While many folks blog about diverse topics, some are really about only one thing, or have a hugely active topic or few that dominate the posts.  On the Interests page you can choose to view all matches, only communities, or only blogs.
